10th Anniversary Show! April 16th at the Stone Church in Newmarket, NH

We’re celebrating our 10th anniversary with a show on Sunday April 16th, 4pm, at the Stone Church in Newmarket, NH.

Join us for an exciting afternoon of a cappella music featuring three fantastic groups. We’ll be hosting the event celebrating 10 years of bringing contemporary harmonies to New Hampshire’s seacoast and surrounding areas.  Our guests will be The New Hampshire Notables from the University of New Hampshire in Durham, and The Heart Beats of Worcester, MA.

Ten years of harmony on and off stage

In March of 2013, Erica Hoar sent an e-mail to other former members of the New Hampshire Notables, UNH’s original female a cappella group. Erica wrote:

I am writing to y’all because I am hoping to start a new all female a cappella group.  Now that I have been out of college for a few years and have settled down a bit, I have found that I really miss singing!  I have been talking to some other Notes that I am friends with and we all feel the same way….something is missing in our lives!  I mainly want to do this, to give us that bond that we loved so much and to fill our musical souls.

Later that month, a first meeting was held. Regular rehearsals started after that, and this fledgling group was named The Afternotes (as in, after being in the Notables!)

Since then, we’ve performed throughout the New Hampshire seacoast and Southern Maine, with sets that include songs by Pink, The Bangles, Fleetwood Mac, Alice Merton, and many more, covering a large swath of the musical landscape. Over the last decade, we’ve worked hard to expand our scope and reach different audiences through a variety of musical genres. As Erica found, for many who sing in college, graduation marks the end of the musical run. The group is a chance to keep the music flowing.  We currently meet each week to sing, socialize and plan events. The rapport that the members share is evident to audiences who feel the joy that this kind of music evokes.

About The New Hampshire Notables

Established in 1980, the New Hampshire Notables are the University of New Hampshire’s treble a cappella group! The Notes arrange and perform music across all genres and time periods and have dedicated over 40 years to building an expansive community of talented singers. Their newest album, “Note to Self,” released in 2022, as well as their performances at events on and off-campus, have built them a reputable name in the New England region.

About The Heart Beats

Formed in the summer of ’22, The Heart Beats are Worcester’s newest coed a cappella group. Worcester is known as “the heart of the Commonwealth” and everyone loves a good music pun, thus the name was born! They love singing together, but most importantly, they love being ridiculous together at rehearsals. Their motto is “sing the song that’s in your heart” because having fun is really what it’s all about.
